The two wires go inline with the non hot wire:

Of the two wires coming from the switch, does one go to the lamp and the other go to the power source? 3/8 in. Shank Push Button On/Off Switch - Antique Brass
I have converted an electric plug-in lamp to be battery operated and I want to be sure that the pushbutton switch will work. Right now the switch I am using has two wires connected to the wires going to the lamp and two wires one connected to positive and one connected to the negative poles on the battery.
