This part is 1/4ips Female thread. with an outer diameter of 3/4in. causing the finial to hang over the threaded area as seen in this picture: 
Is this thread 1/4”-20 (20 threads per inch)? The photo doesn’t seem to be in proportion 1/4ips - 3/4in X 1/2in - Flat Bracket Cap - Unfinished Brass
