You are correct please see updated diagram, but the open slots not the threaded holeas are to mount to the electrical box.
Can you double check the 2-1/4" dimension? It should be 2-34", which is standard for all 3" J-box mounting. Thanks. 4in. Round Universal Cross Bar with Ground Screw
