Most Glass shades can be used outside since Glass can withstand low temperatures, however glass is susceptible to thermal shock if there are sudden temperature changes. This could potentially cause the glass to crack. Furthermore, while glass generally remains stable in cold conditions, if the lamp shade is exposed to moisture followed by freezing temperatures, water could seep into small imperfections in the glass, expand upon freezing, and cause cracks.
So while Glass lamp shades can be used in an outdoor fixtures, it is important to ensure that the fixture is well-designed to protect against moisture and thermal shock. If the fixture is in a location with frequent and extreme temperature changes, we recommend Polyethylene and Acrylic shades for better durability
