"IPS" stands for "Iron Pipe Size," a standard in plumbing and lamp parts that determines the nominal sizes of threaded pipes and fittings. In the lamp industry, IPS threads are commonly used to secure different parts of a lamp assembly. Unlike plumbing, lamp parts are not tapered (not NPT).
