A damp-rated porcelain E26 socket typically has an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of IP44. This rating means:
- Protection against solids: It is protected from solid objects larger than 1 mm, such as wires or small tools.
- Protection against water: It is protected against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for damp environments like covered porches, bathrooms, or other areas exposed to occasional moisture.
- A damp-rated socket is not the same as waterproof. It should not be submerged or exposed to direct water jets (e.g., rain without protection or hose spray).
