Yes. If this socket is being used for a cord-hung pendant, proper strain relief should be used so the weight and movement of the pendant are not transferred to the electrical connections. Depending on the fixture design, this may require two strain reliefs: one where the cord enters or exits the canopy and another where the cord enters the socket.
The fitting at the cap of this socket is a grounded 1/8ips threaded connection; it does not act as the cord strain relief itself. A compatible 1/8ips strain relief can be threaded into the socket. Whether an additional nipple is required will depend on the specific strain relief and how the pendant is being assembled.
